A healthy twist on an old favorite! in the crockpot.

Yes, it is fall and yesterday was just Halloween, however, if you are anywhere near me -in New York- then you know we have had a COLD end of October. Including a freak snowstorm leaving many without power and heat.

To beat the cold winter nights, chili is a great go-to dinner option for any family. Cooking it in the crock-pot makes it even easier, but could be unhealthy for you – depending on the ingredients you use. So here is a twist to chili that tastes great and is half the calories than normal.

(Note- I do not use beans but they could easily be placed instead of the chicken sausage, or mixed with both)

Ingredients-

1 pound Turkey meat

3 Chicken sausages

1 cup diced celery

1 14 ounce can crushed or diced tomatoes

1 14 ounce can whole tomatoes (or 2 14 ounce cans of either or)

1 small can green chilies

Jalapeno added to your liking

1/4 cup diced onion

1 tsp cayenne Pepper

3 tsp ground cumin seed

6 tsp chili powder (you can use less for your liking)

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

Directions-

Brown turkey meat on stove and drain. Add all ingredients into crock-pot. Stir and cook on low for 4 hours. Serve with cheddar cheese, sour cream and corn bread for a nice Sunday night winter dinner!

Enjoy!
